There's Nothing To Do Here, But You'll Pay A Lot Less To Do It
-
The Mayor of Saint John, New Brunswick has a message for big-city types fed up with the cost of living and traffic and general aggravation of places like Toronto and Montreal: move here, where housing is way cheaper and commutes take a few minutes. And that's the kind of sales pitch smaller cities are making to try and attract the young professionals who are in short supply in those places, and it's attractive until you realize that one of the reasons things are cheaper and commutes are easier is that they don't have nearly the number of good jobs available, and even if you DO get a good job, the chances for advancement are more limited. Which is to ask the eternal question: Would you rather be a big fish in a small pond or a small fish in a big pond? And if your ambition is to be a big fish in a big pond, don't you have to go to the New Yorks/L.A.s/Londons of the world? (CTV News)
