It's No 'Fly Eagles Fly,' But It'll Have To Do
-
If the New York Times is reporting on it, it must be culturally significant, right? So it's important, I assume, that a comeback has been made by "Here Come the Sixers," the corny, irritating anthem they used to play at Philadelphia 76ers games in the 1970s. I grew up with that thing and I thought it was corny even back then, and, trust me, it's corny. Oh, you don't trust me? Here. Anyway, with the team's improvement, it's now being played, unironically, after every home win. Once you hear it, it will imprint itself in your brain. "1-2-3-4-5-Sixers, 10-9-8-76ers"? I suppose that since I have been afflicted with that in my head since the Dawkins-McGinnis-Free-Carter days, you should be, too. Your topic? Most annoying yet endearingly nostalgic songs.
