On The Bright Side, It's A Meaningless Position, So He Can't Do Any Harm, Can He?

Last year's attempt failed when time ran out, but they're trying again at the White House, renominating Sam Brownback’s nomination for something called "Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom," because they want to reward a supporter. But I'm mentioning this because Brownback, by any measure, was a flop as Kansas governor. He instituted a tax-slashing, services-slashing program that was a conservatarian's wet dream and it failed, and he stuck with it to the detriment of the state. What he's doing now, rewarded for supporting the President, is failing upward. And you can find plenty of examples of people who show they can't do the job and keep getting more work -- even in, or ESPECIALLY in, radio. You've been there, wondering how some people keep getting hired despite being objectively bad at their jobs. The Peter Principle was wrong; people don't just get promoted to their level of incompetence, they keep getting promoted way beyond that. (Kansas City Star)
