Can't Get There From Here
-
Here's a situation that hasn't been mentioned much before: As airlines make record profits, they're also cutting back service to small town airports. As a result, the list of American towns with no commercial airline service is growing, and some folks have to drive a very long way for any flights to anywhere. In fairness, can an airline be forced to provide service to an airport when there's little or no business there to support the cost? Conversely, does the lack of scheduled flights pretty much guarantee there won't be enough business, and does that create a problem for the local economy, or is "well, Oakland Airport is only a 90 minute drive away" enough?
