Not That Self-Parking Is Much Safer, But Still
-
I've told you how much I don't trust valet parking, but I DEFINITELY wouldn't trust it if I had a really expensive car. A lawsuit in Florida claims that a valet at the Vinoy Renaissance hotel in St. Petersburg gave a $300,000 Ferrari to the wrong guy. The lawyer whose car it is says that the valet just gave the car to some 28 year old dude who said his valet ticket was in the car. He didn't get far -- he had "difficulty" driving it, which is understandable, and got pulled over because the tail lights weren't working. Now, the guy who took the car says he didn't steal it because, even though he deliberately deceived and distracted the valet, he was handed the keys. The cocaine on the dashboard? That story kept changing. There also might be a ring of car thieves involved. Moral: Maybe a $300,000 car isn't practical, period. (Tampa Bay Times)
