Yet There Are Still More People There Than There Will Be Once The Train's Built
-
You may be aware that the state of California is flushing billions -- with a B -- of dollars down the drain with a project to build a bullet train from nowhere to nowhere (ostensibly to eventually connect L.A. and San Francisco, but that's not even close to happening); in preparation for building the first leg in the Central Valley, they used eminent domain to buy up property in the way, including a lot of homes. But since they're nowhere near ready to build the train, what they created was a blighted corridor for squatters and vandals. The homes are boarded up and occupied by squatters; orchards are dead and houses are being burned for fire department practice. This was a foreseeable development. Bureaucrats just didn't care, because they saw dollar signs. (Los Angeles Times)
