Sorry, Someone Else Can't Handle It So YOU Have To Suffer
-
You want a topic nobody's talking about? Try talking about opioids. No, not in the usual "we have a problem" manner. I'm talking about how, in the debate over how to restrict access to opioids, everyone seems to forget that there are some people who need the drugs. This came to my mind over the last few weeks, when my kidney stones caused me such pain that the "strong stuff" wasn't working and there was absolutely no position I could assume that was comfortable, nor could I sleep. I had to jump through hoops to get a stronger pain killer -- the insurance company refused to cover the prescription because I hadn't used up the stuff that DIDN'T work. Yes, some people use the stuff to get high and they get addicted. That needs to be addressed. But do not forget that the reason these drugs exist in the first place is to help people manage intense pain. (Tampa Bay Times)
