Confederate soldier statues are one thing, but what happens if, as in the case of Asbury Park, New Jersey, the founder of your city was a segregationist? Activists want a statue of the guy who founded the town and operated its first resort gone, and considering that while he employed black people, he banned them from the beach and boardwalk until late at night and he insisted that the town had to appeal to whites only, you can understand why they wouldn't want his statue to remain. I'm sure some people will say, well, those were different times, but that's not really an adequate excuse to honor his memory with a statue, is it? (NJ Advance Media/NJ.com)
