He's 78, he's a mechanic, and since 1979 he's spent most of his leisure time making a folded-paper chain out of tourist brochures, the kind you get at rest stops. You know what that is: You fold gum wrappers or other small slips of paper into little wedges and link them. You probably did it when you were a kid. He's been doing it as, basically, his life's major opus. And it's 23 miles long, 2,300 miles. I guess it's folk art of a sort, but what do you do with it? (Raleigh News and Observer)
