The self-immolation of a prominent attorney -- he was a lawyer in the "Boys Don't Cry" case -- to protest against destruction of the environment did get attention for his cause... for a moment. It'll be forgotten, and I wonder how much narcissism has to go into an act like this. You have to believe that your torching yourself will get a significant number of people to think, oh, he's right, we must change our ways, rather than seeing it on the news and moving on to the next thing. Generally, you're worth more to your cause as a living activist than as a dead martyr. (New York Post)
