Another one bites the dust, and this one's demise is particularly pathetic: The Bon-Ton, a department store chain that also owns Carson Pirie Scott, Younker's, Elder Beerman, Herberger's, and some other chains, went bust, got put up for auction, and the only two bids they got were from liquidators. That hurts. The business, the locations, the assets: Worthless except for selling off the merchandise at fire sale prices. Every time you think retail might not be dead, you get news like this.
