In case you were thinking about getting those suitcases with built in batteries to charge your devices, one of the biggest of that bunch, Bluesmart, is going out of business now that you can't check the bags because lithium ion batteries and cargo holds don't mix. And the company won't honor warranties or offer replacement options, so buyers are SOL. Other bags with batteries have removable batteries, which allow you to check the bags and stash the batteries in your carry-on, but that defeats the purpose of having a GPS in the bag so you can track it -- the GPS needs battery power. And as for Bluesmart, they made the fateful decision to make their batteries hard to remove. So, 'bye. Also, you can find ways to charge your phone without needing a battery in your checked luggage to do it. (Los Angeles Times)
