So Much For My Plans To Open A Cereal And Soup Restaurant
-
Wall Street is punishing some of the most familiar companies for what is turning out to be a grave mistake: making cereal, soda and soup. Yes, we're on this again, the fact that consumption of some of the staples of our youth is rapidly falling because Millennials aren't into them, or people are more health-conscious, or both. General Mills, Campbell's, Pepsi, all in the financial crosshairs. And if that's not enough, the price wars between grocers like Kroger and Walmart, exacerbated by the entry of Amazon into the field, means that the cereal, soda and soup companies have to play ball on lower prices, meaning lower margins, meaning.... we may be witnessing the end of a food era that we did not expect would ever happen.
