For Once, The 'Don't You Know Who I Am?' Card Would Have Been Appropriate
-
We have all been there -- you encounter someone, you don't know who they are, and it turns out that you HAVE met them before and you SHOULD know their name. But if there's a lesson to be learned, it's that if you don't recognize someone, you shouldn't make fun of them on Twitter as Neil Patrick Harris did to a woman backstage at the Tony Awards, calling her "the woman in the top hat" and noting that his son said she says "like" and "oh my God" a lot. Turned out that it was Rachel Bloom of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," a) who is an identifiable celebrity and b) whose husband wrote for Harris' sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," including a key episode for Harris' character Barney. That's embarrassing. And he didn't recover all that well, posting “Indeed! Well said. Thanks for the reminder. How was backstage?," to which she didn't respond. Bottom line: Never make fun of a random person you don't know. It can only lead to something like this, and it's cruel to begin with. (Los Angeles Times)
