Swiping Left Would Have Changed Everything

Maybe there are worse girlfriends out there, but this one was... okay, here's what happened. The guy, a McGill University student, is a clarinetist. A very good clarinetist. So good a clarinetist that he was winning competitions all the time. So one day a few years ago, he applied for a two-year scholarship at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in L.A., which is a big deal -- worth $50,000 a year and highly regarded, with instruction from one of the best in the world, who only takes two students a year. And they accepted him. But he never knew it, because his girlfriend at the time intercepted the email and forged a response rejecting the scholarship, then forged an email from the teacher turning him down. Why would she do that? Because she was afraid he'd leave her. And he didn't find out until two years later. So he sued her, she didn't even bother to respond, and now she owes him $350,000 Canadian for the damage to his career. It's unlikely he'll get that out of her, though. And how do you repay someone for derailing their whole career right out of the gate? (Montreal Gazette)
