You Can Hear The Buzz... No, Wait, That's Just A Text And Your Phone's Vibrating

As we get to the end of Summer, we get to the time when all of the big smartphone companies, by which we mostly mean Apple and Samsung, make their big reveals for the next wave of phones, including the just-announced Galaxy Note 9 and, of course, the upcoming iPhone Whatever. But, as this Washington Post article wonders, has the public lost interest? I mean, yeah, Apple said that sales of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X are still roaring, but there USED to be breathless anticipation for the Next Big Thing. Now, you don't really even hear much speculation about what the next iPhone will include, nobody seems to even CARE about the Google Pixel, and people aren't eager to swap phones as often as they used to do -- mine's two years old and I used to upgrade like clockwork to the new iPhone the moment they became available, but this time I'm not planning to upgrade unless there's an absolutely-gotta-have-it feature that my old 7 Plus can't do. (Face recognition ain't it; 5G would do it, but even though L.A. is one of the first markets that'll get 5G, my particular area won't get it for a while, so I can wait.) Are you less enthusiastic about the new phones? (Washington Post)
