How Much Translation Does There Need To Be For 'Steak Burrito, Chips, Coke'?

In case you didn't see this weekend's Internet outrage, here it is, the Taco Bell where a worker refused to take an order from an English-speaking drive-thru customer, claiming that nobody on the staff speaks English and "this is Hialeah!," which is, of course, a town where a majority of locals speaks Spanish. A few things: Yes, it's insane that any business would hire anyone who would turn away business because of a language difference; I've been to businesses in other countries where I didn't speak the language and they didn't speak English and, somehow, we all able to communicate (with smiles and laughter, too); And, yes, you could say that it's a dose of Americans' own medicine because we don't make it easy for people who don't speak English to do business, either. Oh, and people speaking Spanish at Taco Bell is an anomaly, considering how Taco Bell may just be the least authentic Mexican food in existence. (Miami Herald)
