Yeah, They Distract You From Staring At Your Phone For The Entire Meal

I'm a little confused by this Wall Street Journal essay on the writer's antipathy towards TVs in restaurants. He says that the TVs are "blaring," and what confuses me is that I go out to eat and I do see TVs in many restaurants but I can't think of a single place I've been to lately that had the sound on. Not one. The argument would be stronger if he was railing about the video itself without the sound -- they CAN be a distraction -- but he's primarily concerned about the noise.
