Just Hanging Up An Anti-Bullying Poster In The Guidance Office Doesn't Cut It Anymore

The question is what responsibility a school district has when a student gets bullied. In the case of a middle school student right here in my district, his parents are suing, contending that the district didn't do enough to protect the kid from getting bullied and beaten up. I'm of two minds on this, as someone who was bullied plenty as a kid. On the one hand, it's always been this way and you survive it somehow. On the other hand, knowing how cruel kids can be, it's amazing to me that schools look the other way when they KNOW what's happening. They don't even TRY to steer sadistic kids towards a better way to socialize. And when it devolves into violence, the schools are REALLY impotent. They COULD concentrate on discipline and socialization, and instead don't want to get involved. (Daily Breeze, Torrance)
