Who Says They're Not Creative? Just Look At How They Find New Fees To Charge

Not that you want to empathize with an airline these days -- they'd charge you for it -- but in the case of American Airlines repeatedly being rejected for copyright protection for its logo, you can understand why they'd be upset. It's a bureaucratic nightmare: The company's recent logo, which is a diagonal red-white-and-blue slash in which the white part curls up into an eagle's head, has won design awards, but the bureaucrats say it's too common. And what's really weird is that they've gotten a trademark for it, and trademarks are usually harder to get. Pretty much anything gets a copyright these days, but not this. Is the system broken?
