There Are Literally Millions Of Better Names Than The One They Have
-
It's been a while since we've had a racist-sports-nickname controversy, but here's one: McGill University is voting next month on dropping the school's sports nickname "Redmen." The name wasn't originally meant to connote indigenous people, it was about the color of the jerseys, but it did eventually incorporate the inappropriate imagery, so... well, this: Other schools have dropped those kinds of names and the world kept spinning. If you can change the name and experience no ill effects while not insulting anyone, why not do it? It's weird to have a name connoting a racial or ethnic group, anyway. (And if the people who run my high school alma mater are reading this, it's 2018; maybe you should drop the name "Indians" already.) (CFCF-TV/Montreal)
