The Tent's Getting Smaller And Smaller

It's fair to ask the question: If you're in a political party that takes a policy position that's against who you are, can you stay in the party in hopes of influencing a change or is it time to bail? This elected town official in Massachusetts is transgender and a Republican, and now, with the party taking an anti-trans position and floating the idea that the government will entirely eliminate the very idea of transgenderism and enforce defining people's genders based on their birth biology, she's staying in the party. She's taking the position that the party needs someone internally to be able to reach those at the top and influence them. But in cases like this, what influence can she have? When the leadership shows you who they really are, isn't it time to say that it's not your party anymore? (Washington Post)
