You'll Get The Gist Of It, Even If You Don't Understand A Word
-
If you live in an area with a large Asian-American population, you might have gotten some robocalls in Mandarin Chinese. I get them, and I just ignore and delete them, but what DO those things say? This article translates it for you: it's called the Chinese Embassy Scam and it's exactly what that sounds like, a fake recorded call purporting to be from the embassy and claiming that the recipient had committed some grave financial lawbreaking and his or her family back home will be punished if blah blah blah. Or it tells you that you have documents you need to pick up but first have to send money blah blah blah. Even if you DO speak Mandarin, feel free to hang up on them. Whatever you do, don't send money. (San Francisco Chronicle)
