Ban Cups, Too. Just Put Your Mouth Under The Fountain And Hit The Button

It doesn't matter, it seems, that the statistics are sketchy -- notably, that the main number used to justify the bans are based on what a kid admits was a made-up statistic that sounded good -- because the L.A. City Council is hell bent on enacting an eventual plastic straw ban that even they admit is "symbolic." While advocates for the disabled are upset because people who NEED straws to drink can't really work with paper or glass straws, and despite straws really not being the main problem involving plastics and the environment, they're going to pass a law making restaurants hand out straws only by request and eventually not at all. One of my go-to restaurants has a straws-only-on-request policy and it's kind of a pain when you get your drink, need a straw even to stir in sweetener, and you have to flag down the server. I know, First World Problem, but still. (Los Angeles Times)
