Once You Get To, Like, 90, The Numbers Don't Really Matter Anymore
-
Big scandal on the Really Old People front!: A report contends that the woman who is in the record books as the longest-living human ever was a fraud. They say that she was not really 122 years old when she died in 1997, and they claim she did it through identity fraud, taking her mother's identity so she could avoid inheritance tax. That would have made her 99 when she died, which is still pretty old, but not record-breaking old. There are those who dispute the disputation (is that a word?), so now it's a controversy. Either way, the story is about how long people can live, and whether we WANT to live that long. (Agence France Presse)
