We're still doing this in 2019? A high school in Bucks County is getting sued by the state for using the same name as the Washington NFL team for its athletic program. The defense is that the students don't mind the name (although it appears some do) and it's tradition and they claim it's intended as a compliment. Yeah, but it's racist, so there's that. In 2019, there's really no excuse. Oh, the district in question is Neshaminy, pronounced "Neh-SHAM-muh-nee." It's a Lenni Lenape term. That's a Native American tribe. I doubt the Lenni Lenape considered the R-word a compliment. (Philadelphia Daily News)
