One for the little guy: McDonald's went after an Irish fast food chain called Supermac's for trademark infringement in the EU, claiming that Supermac is too close to Big Mac. And Supermac's won. In fact, Supermac's managed to win on the basis that McDonald's never properly registered its own trademark. And McDonald's lawyers could only produce Wikipedia pages and internal histories to try and show prior use. Really, one look at a Supermac's and you know it's not McDonald's and you can't get a Big Mac there, but big multinational corporations gonna be big multinational corporations. (The New York Times)
