Ever Get The Feeling You've Been Cheated? UPDATE: It's Still Not As Promised
-
That big deal Trump and Scott Walker took credit for -- bringing a Foxconn plant to Wisconsin -- now appears to be a cruel joke, as the company indicates that it WON'T be making LCD panels there and WON'T be hiring blue collar workers but will rather take its huge cash bonanza and tax credits and WON'T build a manufacturing plant and instead will hire mostly white collar workers. The company points to "changed" circumstances in the global market. Uh huh. The TV manufacturing market hasn't changed, and a flattening or downturn in smartphone sales was predicted. You might wonder if this was the plan all along, a photo op and campaign boost that was really just business as usual, screwing the people who were duped into thinking that this was good news for them and are on the hook for billions in cash to hand over to Foxconn. UPDATE: After a call from Trump, Foxconn has "reconsidered" and will now build a manufacturing plant, but it won't make big screen TVs as promised. It'll build little screens for phones, which a) won't involve nearly as many jobs and b) is in a category with shrinking demand, which is like pushing to reopen coal mines with the demand for coal dropping. Still a boondoggle. (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
