Speaking of smells, imagine living in a town where someone abandoned a seafood sauce plant over ten years ago and left vats of seafood sauce to rot, and by "sauce" I mean a mix that includes herring. Yeah, smells like rotted fish. This is in Canada, where the owner of a sauce plant was besieged by food safety complaints, and gave up years ago, leaving the sauce to ferment and solidify; they tried a cleanup two years ago involving pouring concrete in the drains, and it only made things worse. And now the Newfoundland and Labrador government is arguing with the town over who gets to pay to clean it up. Meanwhile, yuck. (Canadian Press via Canoe)
