There's No App For That

Wait, Amish people aren't supposed to use modern technology, right? So what's this about people who make good money driving Amish people around, sort of an Amish Uber? This exists, and it's fascinating: There are shacks in the middle of nowhere where there are landline phones, and those needing a ride go to these shacks and call the guy who has a van and can take them where they need to go. They're referred to as "Amish taxis," they're licensed as paratransit vehicles and drivers, and there are 167 licensed drivers for the services in Pennsylvania. It hasn't replaced the horse and buggy, but it's become a very lucrative and succesful business for the drivers. And I bet it's steadier and better work than driving for Uber or Lyft, too.
