Sorry, Bud, Should Have Comparison Shopped While You Were Dying
-
Those of you who are opposed to Medicare for All or Obamacare who raised the issue of "death panels" should think about how we already, in a way, have "death panels," only they're not the government, they're private companies which decide whether you get care or not and what they'll pay for. A thumbs down can ruin you, and they tend not to explain WHY they deny you coverage. Example: this TV consumer report about a family facing a $30,000 medical helicopter bill that their insurance company decided wasn't necessary and wouldn't be paid, despite the service not being reviewed by a doctor or nurse. And an additional issue: The chopper company was out-of-network. Who would even ask, in an emergency, whether the carrier is in or out of their insurance network? One element that should also be noted: The air ambulance company notes that their prices are high because Medicare doesn't pay them enough to cover their costs, so they have to pass the difference along to everyone else. That's an issue that needs to be resolved if Medicare does become the rule for everyone. (WGCL-TV/Atlanta)
