Try Not To Breathe, At Least Until You Get To Your Stop

Everyone will tell you, do not make eye contact with anyone on the New York subway, and that's usually wise. But when an autistic 8-year-old got punched by a guy and the reason may have been that the kid looked at the man's potato chip bag, that tells you that you can't make eye contact with ANYTHING. Even inanimate objects. I'd say you'd be best off closing your eyes but someone will steal everything you have on you if you do that. I usually just look at my phone or the ads above the seats, or at the Daily News or Post, or straight down at my shoes. Never at anyone or anything they may be carrying, though. That's clearly a problem. (New York Daily News)
