Why Can't His Parents Just Buy His Way Into USC Like Everyone Else?
-
The town next to mine is wealthy. (And a speed trap, but also wealthy.) Last year, a teenager, a member of a wealthy family living in that town, was acquitted of being the getaway driver in a gang murder in South L.A. Some people thought he got off because he happened to be a wealthy white teen rather than a poor minority member. The people thinking that may have more reason to think that they're right now that the same teen has been arrested for a carjacking. The carjacking happened before the murder, his attorney says, but prosecutors say they couldn't charge him until the murder case was done. His attorney says that this arrest was intentionally timed to interrupt the kid's spring break, and I'm sure you're empathetic towards him for that. But in the light of the college admissions controversy, this is more material for those who feel like rich kids get breaks others don't. (Los Angeles Times)
