He Always Read Her A Bedtime Story After A Long, Hard Day Of Genocide

How would you handle it if your late parent was a famously horrible person? Here's a belated obituary for Edda Goering, daughter of Hermann Goering, and she went to her grave defending her father, claiming he had nothing to do with killing Jews and that his only crime was being too loyal to Hitler (her godfather). Can you imagine, faced with all the evidence that your father was complicit in perhaps the worst crime in history, being insistent that everyone else is wrong and your dad was innocent? She even fought the seizure of the jewelry, furniture, and artwork her dad had that was looted from Jews. It's one thing to be blissfully unaware, but it's another to fight against overwhelming evidence. (New York Times)
