Being Famous Should Not Be A Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Card
-
This article tries to get to the bottom of why superfans defend Michael Jackson and R. Kelly and other celebrities who are accused of being pervs. You could say the same thing about Trump supporters who defend their man regardless of what he does, denying what's in front of their own eyes. Or the fans of certain celebrities who form Twitter armies to attack anyone who criticizes their heroes. Any superfans of anything... why? Why do people just suspend all reason and disbelief to defend the actions of someone they don't even know? The article doesn't quite neatly explain it -- there's some talk about how social media makes fans think they're the celebs' friends and have a personal relationship, but it doesn't really get to why some people fall into that trap.
