The Less We Say About 'Let's Go Mets Go,' The Better
-
What is it about New Jersey and weird old guys who want to write new official songs for people who don't want new official songs, or at least their corny versions? For years, there was a guy who tried to get the state to adopt his New Jersey song as its official anthem, a sort of ragtime ditty that was out of date decades before he wrote it. And now, an 80-year-old North Jersey Mets fan, Frank Bruno, wants the team to dump "Meet the Mets" in favor of HIS song, "We Love You Mets." His is intended as a younger generation's song -- it's got an electronic track and sounds like an Eastern European traditional song arranged as dance music from the '80s. It's... not good. Besides, "Meet the Mets" is timeless and lets Phillies and Yankees fans replace "Meet" with "Beat," which means everyone can enjoy it. Anyway, this won't happen for ol' Frank, but his persistence is impressive. (Bergen Record)
