This article about how people in the U.K. throw out a lot of eggs over concern about the "best by" date expiring even though the eggs are probably still safe to eat, and it's a topic that's pretty universal everywhere: You have eggs or bread or canned goods or anything with a "best by" or "sell by" date and you throw it out, and if it's still good you just wasted food at a time when people could really use that food. In the case of eggs, you can do a water test to tell if the eggs are still good to eat (hint: if they float in cold water, nah). Do you pitch food out when it hits the dreaded expiration date?
