Rent A Truck, Pay Some Friends To Help, And Do It Yourself

Got any moving nightmare stories? This one's about a family who moved from Halifax to Toronto and found that the moving company delivered only half of their stuff (some of it broken) and dumped the rest 30 miles away, resulting in the family getting a $452 invoice for illegal dumping. The article notes that you should stick to reputable movers, but when we moved to L.A., the movers hit an overpass with the top of my car on a carrier, then initially refused to pay for fixing it because they had subcontracted the car transport to a third party who screwed up, and the third party refused to pay, too. (The movers ultimately paid when I said we'd be talking about it on the radio. Yeah, not too proud to pull that card when necessary.) (CBC)
