Streaming Isn't Everything
-
This mundane story about a deal between movie studio Lionsgate and Redbox to keep the former's DVDs in the latter's kiosks leads to an interesting topic: Who rents DVDs nowadays? Because despite all the talk about streaming, and despite the absolute demise of the video store, people ARE still renting DVDs. I see people at the Redbox in our local Ralphs all the time. Why? Well, newer movies go there before they go to HBO, Netflix, Amazon, etc. The picture quality on a Blu-ray is better. It's cheaper and worth the trouble to go to the kiosk. A LOT of movies just aren't available via streaming. What else? (Engadget)
