Oh, That Dead Body? We Call 'Em Floaters
-
You CAN swim in the Delaware River. Some people do. It is not a good idea. The water -- okay, you ever been by the river as it passes from Trenton to Philly and down to the bay? With all the refineries and factories along the banks? I don't care HOW hot it gets, it's nasty in there. Way up in Bucks County and beyond, it's fine and people go tubing in it. Once the cities take over in Trenton, it's a brew of chemicals and worse. I'd open a fire hydrant instead. This article examines the various major rivers that run through the Philly area -- the Schuylkill River, Wissahickon Creek, Cooper River -- and finds them all a little gross, but people do boat on them and row on them and even take a dip. Water is alluring, even brackish, chemical-and-feces-filled water. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
