Polls show that a large percentage of Americans admit to having no close friends, and this article is specifically about Hollywood, where, the author claims, nobody has real friends, not the kind that you can trust, that will come through for you when you need it. In Hollywood, and, I imagine, in other fields, people you may think of as friends will abandon you when you're no longer of use. If you can't help THEM, you won't get help.
