Some Traditions Deserve To Be Buried
-
Sunday's Raiders-Chiefs game will be, barring any future temporary relocation of a game to an alternate site, the last NFL game played in a multi-use stadium with a bare dirt infield on the gridiron. Used to be you'd see it all over the league, in Atlanta, Washington, even Miami when the Marlins season overlapped with the Dolphins. Oakland's Name-Of-Sponsor-Here Coliseum is the last of that breed, and this is the last Raiders game in Oakland that will overlap with the A's (even though the A's are in the Wild Card race, the Raiders won't be back home until after the World Series anyway). No player will miss the dirt, which is basically like playing on concrete and offers poor footing. Progress! (Washington Post)
