Culture Minister Rejects Culture
-
The Russian culture minister insulted comics and the adults who read them -- “for those who can’t read well," "like chewing gum, not food," "aimed at children who are only learning to read,” "it’s pathetic for adults to read comic books.”. Them's fightin' words. There has been a backlash. And, yeah, if you haven't read a comic since childhood, you have no idea how good they can be. Comics, and especially graphic novels, are not for kids. (I can suggest a few to show you how great they can be, like Michael Kupperman's "All the Answers," Art Spiegelman's "Maus," and anything by Chris Ware, Daniel Clowes, Peter Bagge...) (The Guardian)
