Maybe Just Don't Build Anything Anywhere, To Be Safe
-
ANOTHER Tampa building project leads to the discovery that the land was a cemetery -- in this case, with over 115 possible graves -- that was built over in the 1920s and was before that a cemetery for black people. In this case, though, the restaurant company that bought the tract has announced that it will restore the land with respect to those buried there, a happy ending that still doesn't answer the question of how these cemeteries all over Tampa were built on and nobody remembered. I know why they built on them back then -- racism, of course -- but how did that get forgotten? (WFTS-TV/Tampa)
