True Confession - I Never Even Knew About That Book As A Kid
-
Behind the New York Public Library's list of the Top 10 checked-out books of all time, topped by “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats and “The Cat in the Hat” by Dr. Seuss and dominated by children's books, is the one book that ISN'T on the list although you'd think it would be: "Goodnight Moon." Why? Because the librarian in charge of the children's books HATED the book. And even though that librarian retired in 1941, the library kept "Goodnight Moon" off its shelves for decades. It wasn't there until 1972. She also hated "Stuart Little" and "Charlotte's Web," but she is also the one responsible for how children's libraries look and operate today, from the child-sized tables to ordering books in many languages. So, maybe not a villain. (Washington Post)
