The news this week might lead you to wonder: Are you more likely to catch a virus on a cruise ship like the one being overrun by coronavirus in Japan? The answer is... maybe. Not as likely as you might assume, considering how many people make the "floating petri dish" joke, but, yeah, if you put a lot of people in a confined area, you can assume what you assume. Thing is, even in light of the stories you'll hear like this one or the occasional hantavirus outbreak, it's not all that common. And it's much more common among crew members. See, just standing in the buffet line isn't enough; you have to be in really close quarters with people sneezing on you or coughing in your face or shaking your hand, really. So... are you gonna go on any cruises anymore? (BBC)
