Sucks For Everybody, Really

It's not quite accurate to say that articles like this one at SFGate.com are designed to garner sympathy for the bosses who are firing entire staffs due to the pandemic, but that's part of it. And it seems like bad form to suggest that the pain of the owners of a business is akin to the pain of becoming unemployed at the precise time the job market is collapsing. But there IS something to it, as with the article's focus on the Boba Guys bubble tea chain's layoff of 400 employees; the owners basically went from booming business to zero revenue overnight, and they just didn't have enough money to go past 15 days with the spectre of a very long hiatus looming. It's where "it's cruel and tragic to fire people at this moment" meets "what are you supposed to do when there's no money?" (SFGate.com)
