The Problem Is Not Just Toilet Paper
-
Panic buying has stripped the shelves in stores of many essentials. But what do you do when you're poor and you can't find diapers, baby formula, and baby wipes? And what can you do if you get WIC assistance and you can't get the right amount of stuff -- if they give you a WIC check that's for four cans of formula and the store has only three, you don't get a rain check or refund, you just don't get that fourth can. How do you stop panic buying? Because purchase limits aren't working. And an increasing number of people, poor or otherwise, are unable to get baby essentials. Also, diaper banks for the poor are unable to get enough donated supplies. This is bad all around, and begs for government intervention, which, of course, will not happen. (New York Times)
