Worse Than Pitchy

In a lot of cases, we're going to be trying to figure out whether a mass exposure to coronavirus happened before everyone knew to be careful or after they should have known. The line is in the first week of March, when being careful shifted to stay-home, and thus it might be understandable what happened in Mount Vernon, Washington, where a choir director made the fateful decision to hold choir practice on March 10th -- about the time hand-washing became social-separation. They held the practice, with 60 of the 121 members showing up and heartily singing and spraying saliva droplets into the air. The result: 45 infected, two dead so far. Play out the timing in your head and think about whether they should have known. All I know is that I flew home the day before and we immediately started to avoid crowds, but it was another week before it seemed that everyone went into emergency mode. (Los Angeles Times)
