Camden, NJ's police chief walked with the demonstrators. Flint, MI's chief marched, too. Newark's police stood down and patiently waited it out. The peaceful protests were in marked contrast to what you saw on TV this weekend. Why is it that some cities knew how to de-escalate and remain peaceful while others... well, we know that police action tends to escalate matters if not outright trigger violence, so why order it? And how do cities like L.A. and New York and Philly where there have been riots before not learn from experience? (MLive.com/NJ.com/Advance Media)
